Undefended pieces

A real position: click every enemy piece you could capture that nothing defends.

What it trains

The cheapest points in amateur chess, on both sides of the board. A piece nobody is watching, that you could simply take, goes to whoever sees it first, and most of the time at this level nobody sees it either way.

How to use it

Click every enemy piece you could capture that nothing defends, then check. The whole set has to be right: the board marks what you found, what you claimed in error, and what you left out.

About one position in four has nothing undefended to take, and saying so is the answer there. A drill where something is always undefended would teach finding something. What counts is stated on the page: the piece has to be one you could actually take, and a defender counts even when it is pinned, so no answer is marked wrong by a rule you were not told.
